Ready to learn some serious skin care routines & treatments that are natural & effective?
Then you’re in the right place!
Getting serious about using natural skin care is the first step on the journey to revitalizing your skin, improving its longevity, and reclaiming the health of your beautiful, natural skin. While it can already be very beneficial to switch some of your beauty, cosmetics or skin care products for natural alternatives, the unfortunate truth is that any amount of synthetic, chemical-based products that are frequently put on your face and skin is too much.
We’re not saying you have to dive right in on the first day and switch out everything you own for natural products! In fact, it might be best to start with a few alternatives, just so you can see the power and benefits of the natural products, but after you’ve seen it for yourself, it’s time to get serious!
In previous articles, we’ve discussed some of the options you have when it comes to starting your natural skin care routine. In our post about Natural Skincare At Home, we went over some of our favorite carrier oils and essential oils that you can combine in your own DIY recipes to treat a variety of skin conditions. In our post about Best Natural Skin Care Products to Use Today, we discussed some of our favorite types of natural skin care products you can start using today.
In this article, we’ll discuss what natural skin care is, why it’s so important, some of our favorite raw ingredients to look for in natural products to treat different conditions, and how to really get serious about your natural skin care routine.
Natural Skin Care
What is Natural Skin Care?
In one of our recent posts, Natural Skin Care Defined, we spend a lot of time discussing what natural skin care is and different ways to start using it. We’ll offer a quick summary next, but if you’d like more details, please feel free to check out our Natural Skin Care Defined page.
To us, natural skin care can be summed up with our simple philosophy: “If you wouldn’t cook with it, you shouldn’t put it on your body.”
For a more robust definition, natural skin care means using products for your skin that are made entirely from unprocessed or organic raw ingredients. Conversely, it also means not using products made from synthetic or chemical compounds. There are many reasons why you should consider using natural skin care instead of mass-produced beauty, cosmetics and skin care products you see in commercials and on shelves.
Why Should You Switch to Natural Skin Care?
We also discussed this in greater detail in our post about Natural Skin Care Defined, but we’ll give a quick summary here. If you’d like more information, including sources and links, feel free to visit our Natural Skin Care Defined page.
There are several great reasons to switch from common cosmetics and beauty products to natural skin care alternatives. Our main reason goes back to what we said earlier: “If you wouldn’t cook with it, you shouldn’t put it on your body.”
This is because our body actually absorbs compounds through the skin. This has potential to be good or bad for your skin and your health, depending on which products and compounds your skin is absorbing. That’s why we believe it’s so important to get serious about your skin care and start using products made from natural, unprocessed raw ingredients.
In addition to your skin’s ability to absorb things, it can also excrete things. Through sweat, your skin is an essential part of your body’s ability to detoxify itself from waste, toxins and unwanted chemicals. Unfortunately, many of the common synthetic cosmetics products can actually end up clogging the pores, hampering the skin’s ability to detoxify itself. When you combine this aspect with the additional chemicals being absorbed by the skin, it can be a pretty terrifying thing to consider.
But have no fear! Natural skin care alternatives are safe, proven and affordable!
Not only that, but as we discuss in greater detail in Natural Skin Care Defined, using natural skin care products can also have a positive effect on the environment. Depending on the company you choose to shop from, natural and organic skin care products have a higher likelihood of being made in a sustainable way. Additionally, the process to create many of these mass-produced store-bought cosmetics products can create synthetic and chemical-laden waste that makes it way into the water or air. From there, this toxic byproduct can affect wildlife and the ecosystem.
Tri Hita Karana
Meanwhile, here at Utama Spice, we honor the Balinese cultural tradition of Tri Hita Karana, which commits us to respecting and working harmoniously with humanity, nature and the divine. This means we understand the importance of the individual to maintain the health of the global village, so we strive to lower our impact on the environment. We also do extensive research to support the local natural resource base and to enhance local farming skills in areas like organic farming, bee farming and seaweed farming. These farming communities produce the raw materials for our products.

How to Get Serious about Your Natural Skincare Routine
While we’ve discussed how to start using Natural Skin Care At Home as well as which Natural Skin Care Products to Use Today, we haven’t talked about how to get serious about your skin care yet. The simple truth is that it might take a little time and research. As we said above, finding the right natural skin care products, oils or ingredients for you might take some trial and error, but it has life-long rewards and benefits.
Getting serious about your skin care routine is the best way to ensure the longevity and overall health of your skin in the long term. And like we said before, it also contributes to a more sustainable environment!
Everyone’s Skin is Unique
The reason there is no one size fits all solution for natural skin care is because everyone is different. From the specific pH and lipid balance of your skin to the dryness, acne or other possible conditions you might want to treat, there are many different things you might want to consider.
The different products, oils and ingredients are all also unique. Every natural oil that is good for the skin is made up of different combinations of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids and many have a variety of antifungal, antibacterial or antimicrobial properties as well. For instance, argan oil is a non comedogenic oil, which means that even though it’s an oil, it doesn’t feel greasy or clog pores. This attribute makes it a great treatment for acne, despite seeming a little counterintuitive at first.
Where to Start Your Serious Skincare Journey
Getting serious about your skin care means finding which products work best for you and your skin. There are a few ways you can get started. One way would be to try out a few different carrier oils and essential oils in small quantities to see which have the best effects for your skin. You could also visit a dermatologist, medical professional or other skin specialist and see if they have any advice for what type of products might be best for your skin. We recommend following any medical advice given to you by a medical professional, especially if you have a serious condition. But whenever else possible, we recommend using natural products!
