Blackheads are a mild form of acne and can affect many different people for a number of reasons including improper skin care, excess oil production, and clogged and irritated pores and hair follicles. They are most commonly found on the face, especially on the nose.
When it comes to skincare, it is important to choose the right products. We want to steer clear from anything that could cause further damage or irritation. With that being said, more natural remedies and even DIY recipes you make at home may be better alternatives.
The following are a few DIY recipes for blackheads that you can make easily at home. The best part? Most of the ingredients can already be found in your kitchen!
Lemon and Honey Blackhead Eraser
Lemon contains a good amount of Vitamin C and can also help exfoliate the skin and get rid of the debris and dead skin cells that can easily clog your pores. Honey has antimicrobial properties that can effectively penetrate the surface of your skin and help erase any blackheads. Lemon and honey are especially good for people who find that they have excessively oily skin as well.
All you need for this simple recipe is half of a small lemon and a teaspoon of honey. Cut the lemon in half and use a fork to work the skin of the lemon to get more juice. Pour the teaspoon of honey onto the lemon and then rub the lemon over your skin for approximately two minutes. When done, rinse your skin with warm water.
Oatmeal, Lemon, and Turmeric Blackhead Scrub
Another easy recipe you can make at home to eliminate blackheads is made from oatmeal, lemon, and turmeric. You will need one tablespoon of oatmeal powder, and this will be added to two tablespoons of lemon juice and a quarter teaspoon of turmeric. Mix everything well and then apply it to the face and massage the mixture into the skin for approximately three minutes. You will then leave it on your skin for up to fifteen minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. You can use this mask two to three times a week to keep blackheads at bay. It will also effectively remove any excess oil from your skin as well.
Steam Your Skin with Essential Oils
By far one of the easiest things to do at home to help eliminate blackheads is steaming with lavender. Combine three drops of lavender essential oil with a bowl of hot water and place your face over the bowl with a towel covering your head so the steam and the lavender can begin to open your pores and loosen all the dirt, oil, and other debris that is clogging your pores.
After using any of these DIY methods above, applying a toner following the treatment is also good to help with any inflammation and prevent the further buildup of dirt and grime on your skin. Grapefruit and Lavender Essential Oils are great to use in toners to help with the bacteria and irritation.
