Essential oils offer numerous benefits for your health and skincare. However, essential oils are also highly potent liquids that can easily irritate the skin if not used properly. It is common knowledge that essential oils must be diluted before use, especially when being used directly on the skin. But do you know how to dilute essential oils correctly? Don’t risk your or your family’s health. Follow this essential oil dilution guide from Utama Spice.
Diluting Essential Oils
When using essential oils topically it is always recommended that they are diluted to avoid irritation and other adverse side effects. When using essential oils in diffusers or in other applications that avoid direct contact with the skin dilution is normally not required.
As mentioned earlier, essential oils are extremely powerful, so direct contact can cause irritation to the skin, even if you don’t have sensitive skin. Furthermore, dilution makes essential oils safer for kids and pregnant women. That said however there are some essential oils that are still not recommended for kids or pregnant women regardless if they have been diluted or not. Diluting essential oils also give your skin time to absorb them before they evaporate, and allows the oil to be spread over a larger area making the process more economical.
What To Dilute Essential Oils With?
The diluting essential oils commonly known as carrier oils are used. Some examples of carrier oils are VCO or virgin coconut oil, Argan oil, Jojoba oil, Rosehip Oil, and Tamanu oil. Using carrier oils also gives the extra boots to the essential oils as they have properties that can benefit your skin and hair. Using a combination of carrier oils to dilute your essential oils is a fantastic way to create some amazing SIY skincare.
