Painful, uncomfortable, embarrassing, and upsetting — there are plenty of adjectives to describe digestive issues but none of them carry positive connotations.

While you can’t completely get rid of digestive issues (alas!), there are some things you can do to aid digestion, minimise the issues, and boost your overall digestive health.

1.  Ginger Essential Oil

A trusted traditional remedy, ginger has long been commonly used for tackling an upset stomach — especially to improve digestion and help with constipation. But, it also helps with things like acid reflux, nausea, and bloating.

Just mix a few drops of ginger essential oil with 1-2 drops of carrier oil like coconut oil and warm the mixture between your palms. Then, massage it onto your stomach and abdomen area.

Otherwise, it can also be diffused into the air with a diffuser. To alleviate nausea, you can dab a tiny bit on your wrists and forehead.

2.  Fennel Essential Oil

A powerful stimulant for the digestive system, fennel essential oil has been used for hundreds of years to cope with digestive issues. Not only does it have laxative properties to help with constipation, but it also has antispasmodic properties that reduce the symptoms of IBS.

Mix one to two drops of the oil with a small amount of carrier oil and massage onto the abdomen. Do this two to three times a day. For a comforting bath, you can also add six to eight drops of the oil into your bathwater.

3.  Lemon Essential Oil

A staple for many, lemon essential oil can help to aid digestion, too. The oil is rich in antioxidants that help to prevent as well as minimize inflammation and bolster your digestive system. This, in turn, helps with digestion and ward off constipation.

Simply mix the essential oil with a carrier oil of your choice and massage it onto your skin. Pay close attention to your abdomen area. Alternatively, add a few drops to a diffuser and let the scent surround you.
