Coconut oil has long been touted as the miraculous cure-all holy grail oil. Now, while we absolutely love it, we’ll be honest with you: coconut oil isn’t going to solve all of your life problems. That’s the bad news.

But, the good news is that coconut oil still offers plenty of benefits in terms of healthcare and beauty care.

Below, we’ll share with you the different ways you can use coconut oil for your hair, skin, and oral health.

Coconut Oil for Hair

1.   DIY Hair Mask

For the quick way, just massage coconut oil onto your scalp and hair during the shower. Wait a few minutes and then rinse. Alternatively, mix a few tablespoons of the oil — depending on your hair length — with 15 to 20 drops of rosemary essential oil. Apply from ends to roots and cover with a shower cap. Either leave it on overnight or let it sit for at least an hour before rinsing with shampoo.

2.   Hair Serum

For frizzy locks, you can also tame them with coconut oil — which helps with shine, too. The key here is to remember that a little goes a long way. So, just rub a small dollop of the oil between your palms and run it through the ends of your hair.

Coconut Oil for Skin

1.   DIY Body Scrub

For soft and glowing skin, give this easy DIY body scrub a try. Mix  1½ of sugar or salt with a cup of melted coconut oil. For that extra touch, add in five to eight drops of essential oil of your choice. If you want something foolproof, the lavender essential oil is always a crowd-favorite.

2.   Use As Shaving Cream

Coconut oil is a great alternative to store-bought shaving cream. Without a cocktail of chemicals and other additions, the oil is naturally antimicrobial and will leave your skin smooth and nourished.

3.   As Lotion

Often the main ingredient in store-bought lotions and moisturizers, you can slather coconut oil on instead. Massage it onto your skin before sleep and wake up to smooth, soft, and nourished skin.

For those with painful conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and more, you can also apply coconut oil to the area twice a day.

Coconut Oil for Oral Health

1.   Oil Pulling

A dental hygiene routine that has thousands of years of history, coconut oil is the main star in the oil pulling process. Here, you just need to swish a spoonful of the oil around in your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes before spitting it out.

This is said to help with killing the microorganism and bacteria in the mouth that can cause a slew of oral health problems, including plaque and bad breath. However, do bear in mind that this practice is complementary and shouldn’t replace your normal dental hygiene routine.

Now that you’re familiar with the many ways to use coconut oil in your health, body, and beauty care, which one of the above will you give a try first?
