Castor oil is derived from the Ricinus communis plant that grows in tropical regions. It is a type of vegetable oil that is very versatile and has many benefits for the hair and skin in the beauty world. It also works as a carrier oil as well because of its thicker consistency and mixes well with other oils.

Today, we will be sharing a few easy to follow DIY beauty treatments using castor oil so you can take full advantage of everything this natural ingredient has to offer.

Hair Mask

As mentioned earlier, castor oil mixes well with other oils, and for this recipe, you will find that coconut oil and castor oil make the perfect combination for a natural and effective hair mask.

What You Need

Mix the oils together in a bowl and then place the bowl on a double boiler to warm them up. You can then apply the warm mixture to your hair and scalp and massage it in gently. It can then be left on the hair overnight. You can wash it out the next morning using a very mild shampoo.

You can do this treatment twice a week for healthy hair. To keep the oils from transferring to your pillows as you sleep, cover your hair with a shower cap until morning.

What does it do? This mixture helps grow your hair and strengthen your hair. It also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that are beneficial for treating dandruff and other scalp infections.

Eyelash Serum

Castor oil is also often used in beauty treatments to help treat eyelashes. Castor oil is said to contain properties, like protein and ricinoleic acid, that make it a beneficial ingredient to use to help eyelash growth as well.

Before applying castor oil to your eyelashes or eyebrows, you want to be sure that it doesn’t contain any additives or other oils because this may cause irritation and will not give you the desired results.

What You Need

  • A small amount of castor oil – just enough for the eyelashes
  • A mascara wand

Simply dip the mascara wand into the castor oil and apply it to your eyelashes in the same way you would apply mascara. However, use caution so as not to get any of the oil into your eyes. You can apply the castor oil to both the upper and lower lashes and leave it on overnight and wash it off the next day.

You can also mix about a tablespoon of castor oil with a tablespoon of almond oil or olive oil.

For the Eyebrows

In addition to the eyelashes, castor oil can also be used for the eyebrows as well.

What You Need

  • One tablespoon of castor oil
  • One tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel
  • A mascara wand or Q-tip
  • A bowl

Mix all the ingredients above into a bowl and then dip the Q-tip or brush into the mixture. Apply it to your eyebrows and leave it on overnight, washing it off the next morning.

This eyebrow treatment can be used every night, and since castor oil is so thick, it will stay in place on your eyebrows overnight. Since it is filled with vitamins and fatty acids, the castor oil in these DIYs helps moisturize and encourage and support healthy hair growth.

Meta: Castor oil can be used in different beauty treatments that benefit the hair, your eyelashes, and even your eyebrows.
